Xlendi, a typical fishing village and a popular summer resort, lies to the south west of Gozo. The name is derived from xelandion, a type of Byzantine vessel that probably used to put anchor in this port.

Xlendi, wedged between majestic cliffs, Xlendi is the most picturesque and the most romantic fishing village of Gozo. A white statue of the apostle Saint Andrew, patron saint of fishermen, reigns over the port. The church of is dedicated to the Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel. The front section dates to 1868; in 1969 it was enlarged by being elongated on the back. It was dedicated in 1974.
